Plane Crash in Australia Claims Two Lives

(MENAFN) Two men lost their lives in a plane crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Queensland, Australia.

Emergency responders were dispatched to Oakey—a rural town located roughly 150 kilometers west of Brisbane, Queensland’s capital—shortly after 3 p.m. local time following reports of a light aircraft accident, according to an Australian broadcasting agency on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson from the Queensland Fire Department confirmed that firefighters found the twin turboprop Reims Cessna F406 engulfed in flames upon arrival and swiftly put out the fire.

Queensland Police Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Forbes characterized the scene as a "fireball" when the aircraft crashed in a field. He confirmed that both individuals on board died instantly.

The identities of the two men have not been released.

Forbes noted that preliminary investigations indicate the plane was operating as a commercial aircraft on a routine flight.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and will conduct a full investigation into the crash.
