Envoy Al-Mutairi: Kuwait's Joining Arab League Watershed Event


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, July 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's joining of the Arab League on July 20, 1961, was a milestone and historic moment that contributed to boosting the country's independence and sovereignty and entrenched further its Arab identity, the Kuwaiti Permanent Delegate at the Arab League Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi has affirmed.
In a statement to KUNA today on the 64th anniversary of Kuwait's AL membership, Ambassador Al-Mutairi said this step was a a non-controversial affirmation of Kuwait's Arab identity and belonging to the fabric of the Arab nation.
Kuwait, since independence, has a adopted a clear strategic vision based on relentless action to support Arab causes and bolster joint Arab action, he said, affirming that since then, it has remained a basis for the common Arab action.
Ambassador Al-Mutairi has affirmed that Kuwait, since joining the Arab organization, has adopted a wise and balanced policy, narrowing the gulf among warring parties and resolving strives through peaceful means, indicating that it advocates unity of the Arab ranks vis a vis regional and international challenges.
Kuwait, shortly after independence on June 19, 1961, had applied for membership in the Arab League. Its request was accepted and it turned into the 20th member state of the organization the same year. (end)
