Egypt Reveals Hosting Indirect Talks Between Israel, Hamas
(MENAFN) Egypt announced on Saturday that it will host a fresh round of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas on Sunday, focusing on the specifics of a prisoner exchange as part of US President Donald Trump’s initiative to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, in an official release, stated that these discussions are part of the “ongoing Egyptian efforts, in coordination with mediators, to end the Israeli war in Gaza.”
According to the ministry, the indirect talks will concentrate on “the field conditions and details of the exchange process for all Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners, in line with President Trump’s proposal, in the hope of putting an end to the war and the suffering of the Palestinian people, which has continued for two years.”
The statement also emphasized that the negotiations will take place “within the framework of efforts to build on the regional and international momentum created by President Trump’s plan to stop the war in Gaza.”
Earlier, a state-run news channel reported, citing anonymous Egyptian officials, that representatives from Hamas and Israel will discuss “preparing on-the-ground conditions in Gaza for the prisoner exchange process.”
A high-ranking Egyptian security official confirmed that delegations from both Hamas and Israel are expected to arrive in Cairo on Sunday and Monday to engage in the talks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that he had directed his negotiation team to travel to Egypt for “a limited number of days.”
