Ministry Of Municipality To Kick Off 10Th Local Dates Festival In Souq Waqif, Boasting Over 75% Self Sufficiency

Doha: Qatar is set to launch the 10th Local Dates Festival in Souq Waqif, celebrating significant achievements in food security and agricultural sustainability.

The event, hosted by the Ministry of Municipality (MoI) and Souq Waqif management, highlights Qatar's impressive annual production of 26,405 tons of fresh dates from more than 892 productive farms harboring a whopping number of 508,000 palm trees.

This substantial output has helped the country achieve a self-sufficiency rate of over 75%.

The festival, which runs from July 24 to August 7, 2025, at Souq Waqif's Eastern Square, welcomes visitors to explore a diverse variety of locally grown dates.

It serves as a key platform for showcasing the hard work of local farmers and promoting the country's progress in developing its agricultural sector.

Visitors can enjoy the festival daily during the following hours:

Sunday to Thursday: 4pm to 9pm

Friday and Saturday: 4pm to 10pm

The event provides a unique opportunity for the public to discover and taste some of the finest dates produced in Qatar, directly supporting the nation's push for a more sustainable and secure food system.
