Lavrov Meets Chinese Counterpart
(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov engaged in discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Sunday.
This diplomatic exchange occurred shortly before the upcoming gathering of foreign ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled for next week.
The Russian Foreign Ministry disclosed the occurrence of the meeting through a message posted on Telegram.
The post included an image of both ministers but offered no additional insight into the substance of their dialogue.
This announcement was made not long after the Foreign Ministry confirmed Lavrov’s arrival in China. He is there to act as Moscow’s representative at the SCO Foreign Ministers Council session, which is set for Tuesday.
Lavrov’s journey to China follows a recent three-day visit to Wonsan, a coastal city in North Korea.
During that trip, he held discussions with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Saturday, the forthcoming SCO Foreign Ministers Council meeting is planned to take place in the city of Tianjin on July 15.
