Sri Lanka is to sue individuals making breeding grounds for mosquitos
(MENAFN) Sri Lanka’s health authorities plan to take legal action against 982 individuals accused of allowing mosquito breeding on their properties, according to a statement from the National Dengue Control Unit on Tuesday.
Preshila Samaraweera, a consultant community physician with the unit, said the violations were discovered during a nationwide dengue awareness campaign conducted between June 30 and July 5.
During that period, officials inspected 144,250 locations across the country and found mosquito larvae at 4,275 of them. Samaraweera noted that a significant number of schools were among the sites identified as potential breeding grounds.
In response, health officials will launch a nationwide campaign in schools starting Wednesday. The initiative, titled "Clean School," aims to eliminate mosquito habitats and educate students and school staff about dengue prevention and hygiene practices.
