Iraq starts project to expand al-Diwaniyah Refinery
(MENAFN) Iraq has officially begun an $800 million project to expand the al-Diwaniyah Refinery, located in the southern province of Diwaniyah.
The expansion was inaugurated by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani through a virtual ceremony, according to a statement from his office.
The upgrade involves the installation of new refining units that will increase the refinery’s daily processing capacity by 70,000 barrels, raising the total to 90,000 barrels per day.
The initiative also features a unit capable of processing 180 tons of liquefied gas per day, as well as a gasoline enhancement unit with a 10,000-barrel-per-day capacity, along with various additional equipment.
"This project aligns with the government's vision of converting 40 percent of Iraq's produced oil into refining and downstream industries to meet domestic demand and support exports," al-Sudani stated.
