India Plans Redefining BRICS
(MENAFN) India plans to reshape BRICS “in a new form” next year, with a strong emphasis on addressing the key challenges faced by the Global South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday.
Speaking at the second day of the annual BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Modi highlighted India’s upcoming role as chair of the group in 2026, emphasizing a people-centered strategy.
“Under India’s BRICS presidency, we will work to define BRICS in a new form,” Modi stated.
He explained that BRICS would stand for “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Drawing a parallel with India’s leadership during the G-20, where the country prioritized Global South issues, Modi committed to advancing the BRICS agenda with a focus on humanity and people-first principles.
During his address at the plenary session of the Rio summit, Modi underscored the importance of BRICS members supporting developing nations.
“The Global South has many hopes from us,” he remarked. “To fulfil them, we must follow the principle of ‘Lead by Example’.
India is fully committed to working shoulder-to-shoulder with all our partners to achieve our common goals.”
