Xi Congratulates Kim Jong Un on DPRK’s Anniversary

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday conveyed his congratulations to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the 77th commemoration of the establishment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Xi emphasized that Beijing is prepared to “enhance strategic communication, maintain close exchanges and cooperation with the DPRK and join hands to promote China-DPRK friendship,” according to a state-operated news agency.

The Chinese leader highlighted the “socialist cause” shared by the two nations and urged both sides to make stronger efforts toward “peace and development” within the region as well as on a global scale.

After the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese occupation at the conclusion of World War II, a communist administration was founded in the northern zone.

In August 1948, a new Supreme People’s Assembly was elected, followed by the enactment of a constitution on Sept. 3.

The DPRK was formally declared on Sept. 9, 1948, with Kim Il Sung serving as its inaugural premier.

This year also signifies the 76th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Beijing and Pyongyang.

During a summit with Xi in Beijing last Thursday—one day after China staged its largest military parade—Kim pledged to consistently advance ties with China.
