Trump Expects Hamas To Accept Ceasefire Proposal
KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump said on Friday that it would likely become clear within 24 hours whether the Hamas has agreed to a“final proposal” for a ceasefire with Israel in Gaza.
According to Reuters, Trump also stated that he had held discussions with Saudi Arabia regarding the possible expansion of the Abraham Accords - the normalization agreements his administration brokered between Israel and several Gulf countries during his first term.
Speaking earlier in the week, Trump said that Israel had accepted the terms needed to finalize a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, during which both parties would work toward ending the conflict.
When asked on Friday whether Hamas had agreed to the latest ceasefire framework, Trump responded:“We'll see what happens. We are going to know over the next 24 hours.”
A source close to Hamas said on Thursday that the group was seeking assurances that the new U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal would ultimately lead to a complete end to Israel's military operations in Gaza.
