Bengaluru Rural Renamed: Karnataka District Will Now Be Known As Bengaluru North

(MENAFN- Live Mint) In a major decision on Wednesday, July 2, the Karnataka Cabinet approved renaming Bengaluru Rural district as Bengaluru North. The proposal to rename Bengaluru Rural was taken at a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“We have renamed Bengaluru Rural district as Bengaluru North,” Siddaramaiah told reporters after the meeting.

Bengaluru Rural currently comprises four taluks – Hoskote, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, and Nelamangala.

Not just Bengaluru Rural, CM Siddaramaiah added that the Karnataka cabinet has also approved renaming of Bagepalli town in Chikkaballapura district, bordering Andhra Pradesh, as 'Bhagyanagar', noting that Bagepalli is a Telugu name.

Bengaluru was divided into Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural in 1986, and in 2007, Ramanagara district was carved out of Bengaluru Rural.
