Türkiye Uplifts Natural Gas Prices for Households


(MENAFN) In a significant move on Wednesday, Türkiye implemented a 24.6% increase in natural gas prices for households and a 7.86% rise for industrial users, responding to mounting inflation concerns and anticipated adjustments to pensions and minimum wages.

The state-owned Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) disclosed the revised tariffs on its website, confirming that the hike in wholesale natural gas prices was in line with government budgetary targets.

This adjustment, however, will not impact inflation data for June, as the changes took effect in July.

The Turkish Statistical Institute is set to release the country's June inflation figures on Thursday. A survey by state-run media revealed that economists predict a marginal dip in the annual inflation rate, forecasting a decline from 35.41% in May to 35.26% in June.

Amid these developments, pensioners and minimum wage workers are anticipating an increase in their payments, with the government yet to confirm any raises following the June inflation report.

Additionally, the government had previously announced a 30% increase in the minimum wage, set to take effect in January 2025, bringing it to 22,104 Turkish liras (approximately 555 U.S.
