Russia attacks Ukraine’s Defense, industrial sites
(MENAFN) According to reports from Moscow’s Defense Ministry, Russian forces launched an extensive overnight assault targeting Ukraine’s industrial infrastructure using long-range weapons and drones. Ukrainian officials and media confirmed the attack, with some describing it as one of the largest since the conflict intensified in 2022.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the operation involved “a massive strike, involving high-precision long-range air-, sea- and land-based weapons, including the aeroballistic hypersonic Kinzhal missile system, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, targeting Ukraine’s military-industrial and oil-processing facilities.” Though no additional specifics were given, the ministry claimed that the “strike goals were achieved. All designated targets were hit.”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged the assault in a Telegram message, stating that the attack included 477 Russian drones loaded with explosives and 60 missiles of different types. He also reiterated the urgent need for more air defense systems from Western allies.
Zelensky disclosed that Ukraine lost a Western-supplied F-16 fighter jet while defending against the strike, with the pilot dying in the incident.
In a separate post on social media, Ukrainian lawmaker Mariana Bezuglaya accused the military leadership of “murdering” fighter pilots by allegedly not developing effective anti-drone defense strategies.
Ukrainian military sources estimated that over 20 rockets and around 40 unmanned aerial vehicles managed to bypass air defenses during the attack.
