Bus Collision in Tanzania Claims Thirty-Eight Lives
(MENAFN) At least 38 people lost their lives and 28 more sustained injuries Saturday evening when two passenger buses collided head-on and caught fire in Moshi district, located in Tanzania's northern Kilimanjaro region.
According to media, Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Nurdin Babu confirmed in a phone interview on Sunday that among the deceased were members of a single family who had been en route to a wedding in Moshi municipality.
Babu stated the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) when a front tire on one of the buses burst, triggering a collision that led both vehicles to erupt in flames, resulting in multiple casualties on both sides.
Of the 28 injured, Babu said 22 have already received treatment and been released from the hospital, while six others remain under medical supervision.
