PACE Digitek Launches 5 Gwh Battery Storage Facility In Bengaluru

(MENAFN- KNN India) Bengaluru, Jun 28 (KNN) Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, on Thursday inaugurated a cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing facility at the Bidadi Industrial Area in Bengaluru.

The minister hailed the development as a significant step towards clean energy, improved grid resilience, and India's emergence as a global leader in energy storage.

Highlighting India's ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, Minister Joshi stressed the growing importance of energy storage as renewable sources contribute increasingly to the national grid.

“As more renewables power our grid, having reliable storage becomes vital. Facilities like this are essential to turning that vision into reality,” he said.

The BESS facility, established by PACE Digitek, boasts an annual manufacturing capacity of 5 GWh, placing it among the country's most advanced energy storage units.

Its fully automated cell-to-pack assembly line represents a leap in precision manufacturing, ensuring consistency and efficiency with minimal human intervention.

The minister underscored the broader impact of such infrastructure, stating that BESS will play a pivotal role in stabilising the power grid, managing peak demand, enabling higher renewable integration, and supporting frequency regulation.

Citing estimates from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), he noted that India will require over 411 GWh of energy storage by 2032, including 236.22 GWh from battery-based systems.

According to the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), the domestic energy storage sector is projected to attract investments worth Rs 4.79 lakh crore by 2032.

The minister reiterated the government's commitment to catalysing this growth, announcing an additional Rs 5,400 crore under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme to support the development of 30 GWh of battery storage systems.

This comes in addition to the Rs 3,700 crore already allocated under the current scheme, which is facilitating the implementation of 13.2 GWh of BESS projects.

“Through this facility, PACE Digitek is not just manufacturing batteries-it is helping shape India's energy future. It will foster innovation, create high-value jobs, and strengthen our manufacturing ecosystem in line with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the minister said.
