North Korea May Send More Troops To Russia For Ukraine War - Seoul Intelligence

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was stated by South Korean lawmakers, citing a closed briefing of the intelligence agency, Ukrinform reports citing Reuters .

The National Intelligence Service of the Republic of Korea (NIS) believes Russia may be preparing for a large-scale offensive against Ukraine in July or August, said South Korean parliament member Lee Song-gwen.

“The timing of the additional deployment is that it could be as early as July or August,” Lee said.

He added that the NIS based its assessment on the outcome of the latest visit to Pyongyang by a high-ranking member of the Russian presidential security service.

Lee, citing the NIS, also noted that in exchange for North Korea sending artillery ammunition and missiles to Russia, Pyongyang is likely receiving technical advice on satellite launches and missile guidance systems.

The report recalls that after months of silence, both North Korea and Russia have revealed information about the deployment of North Korean troops and their role in Moscow's offensive against Ukraine's forces to reclaim Kursk region.

The two countries said the cooperation is based on an agreement signed by their leaders in June last year, which includes a mutual defense pact, the report notes.

As Ukrinform reported, following talks between Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the DPRK promised to deploy 1,000 sappers and 5,000 military construction workers to Russia to demine and "restore" Kursk region.
