Erdogan Urges Commitment to Israel, Iran Ceasefire
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Turkish president expressed approval of the reported truce between Israel and Iran, emphasizing that both parties must strictly adhere to the agreement.
Speaking at the airport in Ankara before his trip to the Netherlands for the NATO summit, Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed that “Türkiye will resolutely maintain its principled stance that upholds international law and prioritizes diplomacy,” in response to the escalating Israel-Iran tensions.
He strongly criticized what he described as “Israel’s 'reckless actions -- starting with Palestine and extending to Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and ultimately Iran -- are absolutely unacceptable,” pointing out that such behavior contributes to regional instability.
Erdogan stressed that the Middle East cannot withstand the consequences of a direct conflict between Israel and Iran, and he appealed for diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from worsening.
He further emphasized the urgency of reaching a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, calling for an end to Israeli offensives and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance.
“Global actors must take effective steps to put an end to this madness, or it won’t be just our region but the entire world that pays a price,” Erdogan warned regarding the broader consequences of the Mideast turmoil.
In the context of NATO, he added that Türkiye continues to support equitable responsibility-sharing and the enhancement of Europe’s security structure.
