Iraq Warns of Consequences After US Attack on Iran
(MENAFN) Iraq issued a stern warning on Sunday regarding the significant repercussions of recent US air raids on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
The Iraqi government labeled the strikes as a dangerous intensification of the conflict, describing them as an escalation “that goes beyond the borders of any country.”
In an official statement, Iraqi government spokesperson Basim al-Awadi harshly criticized the United States for its direct participation in the intensifying hostilities between Iran and Israel.
“Wars leave nothing but destruction, and the responsibility of major powers and international bodies must be to spare the world further crises, not ignite them,” he said, underlining the obligation of global powers to seek de-escalation rather than provoke additional turmoil.
The spokesperson firmly denounced the US assault on Iranian nuclear installations, cautioning that this type of military escalation “poses a serious threat to security and peace in the Middle East and exposes regional stability to grave risks.”
His remarks highlighted concerns that such actions could destabilize an already fragile region.
He emphasized that using force “cannot be an alternative to dialogue and diplomacy,” underscoring the importance of political and peaceful avenues to resolve international disputes.
Al-Awadi further warned that ongoing military operations could result in a “dangerous escalation with consequences that go beyond any country’s borders and affect the stability of the region and the world.”
His message pointed to the global implications of continued conflict.
The Iraqi official urged all parties engaged in the hostilities to “immediately calm tensions, open urgent diplomatic channels to contain the situation, and work to defuse the crisis.”
His appeal called for immediate efforts to restore calm and reinitiate peaceful negotiations.
