Türkiye Warns U.S. Strike on Iran Could Trigger Global Crisis
(MENAFN) Türkiye's Foreign Ministry raised alarms Sunday following the U.S. military’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, cautioning that the action might dangerously widen the ongoing Middle East conflict into a full-scale international crisis.
“The US attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear sites on June 22 has maximized the risk we repeatedly highlighted, the escalation of conflict and destabilization of the security environment,” the ministry stated.
The ministry underscored that it is “deeply concerned” about the repercussions of the American operation, which specifically targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
“These developments may lead the regional dispute to a global level. We do not want to see such a disastrous scenario unfold,” the official statement warned.
Türkiye urged all actors to refrain from retaliatory violence and to “immediately halt reciprocal attacks” to prevent further devastation and loss of life.
According to the statement, diplomacy remains the only viable solution to the standoff over Iran's nuclear ambitions. “The only way to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program is through negotiations,” the ministry stressed, urging the global community to back diplomatic initiatives aimed at peaceful resolution.
The Turkish government reiterated its readiness to play a constructive role in mediating tensions: “Türkiye stands ready to fulfill its responsibilities and make constructive contributions,” the statement concluded.
The remarks followed a major U.S. air operation carried out earlier in the day, in which American forces struck several Iranian nuclear sites — including the heavily fortified Fordo facility — using precision-guided cruise missiles and specialized bunker-buster bombs.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the strikes as "very successful," noting that three nuclear targets had been hit amid rising fears of a broader regional war.
In the wake of the attack, Iran appealed to the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session, urging the body to denounce what it termed American aggression and to hold violators of international law accountable.
