42M Afs Fiber Optic Project Launched In Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Practical work on a 45-kilometre fiber-optic project worth 42 million afghanis has been launched in western Herat province, an official said on Wednesday.
Officials say the project was initiated in Karokh district and in the first phase, 45 kilometers would be completed.
At the opening ceremony, Hafiz Khairullah Khairkhwa, Head of Telecommunications and Information Technology, said totally the project valued 42 million afghanis, which would be paid by the Afghan Telecom telecommunications company.
According to Khairkhwa, the project would be implemented under the direct supervision of Telecommunications Department. The fiber optic connection has started from Karokh district and its goal is to connect Herat province through Badghis to the northern provinces of the country, which will pave the way for the completion of Afghanistan's national fiber optic ring.
The project would not only increase the scope of internet services, but would also prove an important step in strengthening communication infrastructure, reducing internet prices, and achieving the national goal of digitizing the country.
