Malaysia’s Producer Prices Fall in April

(MENAFN) Malaysia’s Producer Price Index (PPI), which tracks cost shifts at the production level, fell again in April, slipping 3.4 percent according to official figures released Wednesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) attributed this sharp downturn primarily to a steep 17.8 percent drop in the mining sector.

Additionally, the manufacturing sector saw a decline of 2.6 percent, contributing further to the overall fall.

In contrast, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector experienced a modest rebound, climbing 2.6 percent.

The electricity and gas supply sector edged down slightly by 0.6 percent, while the water supply sector posted a small gain of 0.9 percent.

On a monthly comparison, the PPI for domestically produced goods decreased by 1 percent in April.
