Climber Achieves Historic Mount Everest Climb
(MENAFN) Renowned Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new benchmark by conquering Mount Everest for the 31st time, once again surpassing his own global record for the greatest number of successful ascents to the world’s tallest peak.
As reported by the media, the 55-year-old mountaineer reached the 8,848-meter (29,029-foot) summit at approximately 4 a.m. local time on Tuesday (2215 GMT Monday).
He led the Indian Army Adventure Wing Everest Expedition to the top.
Mingma Sherpa, representing the expedition organizer Seven Summit Treks, verified the milestone and acknowledged Kami Rita’s unrivaled dominance in Everest climbing.
“This new feat cements his status as the record holder for the highest number of ascents to the top of the world — a record that no one else has come close to,” he said. “Kami Rita is safe and stable after his summit. He has started his descent and is on his way back to base camp.”
Often referred to as the "Everest Man," Kami Rita first ascended the mountain in 1994 and completed two additional climbs in 2023.
His nearest competitor, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, also from Nepal, has summited Everest 29 times.
Nepal, which boasts eight of the planet’s ten tallest summits, relies heavily on mountaineering as a key driver of tourism, economic income, and employment in the mountainous region.
