Norway Allocates Extra USD440M for Ukraine’s Energy Sector
(MENAFN) Norway has committed an extra 4.5 billion Norwegian kroner (about 440 million U.S. dollars) to bolster Ukraine’s energy sector in 2025.
The announcement was made during Crown Prince Haakon’s visit to Ukraine on Tuesday, where he was joined by Energy Minister Terje Aasland. The delegation visited key energy infrastructure sites, according to a statement from the Norwegian government on Wednesday.
Since 2022, Norway has provided around 6.2 billion Norwegian kroner to help Ukraine’s energy sector. These funds have been vital in securing gas supplies, repairing damaged power grids and infrastructure, and fostering decentralized energy production. Additionally, part of the funding has gone towards enhancing nuclear safety at Ukrainian facilities.
In 2024, Bergen Engines, a Norwegian company, won an international tender to deliver generators for electricity production in Ukraine’s Dnipro region.
"Energy is a crucial factor in keeping Ukrainian society functioning. Therefore, energy security is a top priority in Norway's support (to Ukraine)," Aasland stated.
