US State Sec. Arrives In Istanbul For Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

ISTANBUL, May 16 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Istanbul on Friday to attend two trilateral meetings in a bid to put an end to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The US delegation, led by Rubio, is set to partake in a Turkish-US-Ukrainian and to hold a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian team.
A series of meetings in various formats is planned, including trilateral talks between the US, Ukraine, and Turkiye as well as Russia, Ukraine, and Turkiye, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.
Russian President Valdimir Putin had proposed the resumption of unconditioned direct peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul, urging his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to host a fresh tour of peace negotiations. (end)
