Mirwais Neka Cricket Tournament Begins In Kandahar
KABUL (Pajhwok): The fifth edition of the Mirwais Neka Tournament, featuring five teams, began on Tuesday in the southern Kandahar and Helmand provinces, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced.
ACB spokesman Sayed Naseem Sadat told Pajhwok Afghan News that the tournament, which commenced today, will run until April 26.
The participating teams include Mis-i-Ainak, Band-i-Amir, Amo, Bost, and Speen Ghar.
Sadat explained that the teams were selected based on the top performers from the recently concluded Provincial Grade-II and Grade-I tournaments, as well as contracted red-ball domestic cricketers.
“The Mirwais Neka Tournament provides an important platform for both emerging and returning players to showcase their skills and potentially earn selection for higher-level domestic competitions,” Sadat added.
In today's opening matches, Amo Zone will face Mis-i-Ainak, while Band-i-Amir will compete against Speen Ghar.
According to the ACB, the tournament will be followed by Afghanistan's premier red-ball event, the Ahmad Shah Abdali First-Class Tournament, set to begin in May.
