Shophouse fire in Singapore injures 19, majority children

(MENAFN) A significant fire erupted in a shophouse located in southern Singapore on Tuesday, resulting in the hospitalization of 19 individuals, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported. Among those injured are 15 children.

Authorities stated in a post on Facebook that approximately 80 individuals were evacuated from the affected three-story shophouse on River Valley Road, as well as neighboring buildings, by police and SCDF personnel.

Upon arrival at the scene, SCDF found the fire intensely burning on the second and third floors. Several individuals were observed on a ledge outside a third-floor unit. Before the arrival of emergency services, members of the public utilized metal scaffolding and a ladder to assist those stranded, successfully bringing several to safety.

The SCDF confirmed that the fire was brought under control and extinguished within half an hour. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
