Kashmir Observes Shab-E-Qadr, Srinagar Jamia Masjid Locked

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Shab-e-Qadr, the night of power and blessings, was observed with religious fervor and devotion across Jammu and Kashmir.

The air was filled with a sense of spiritual anticipation and devotion as devotees thronged mosques and shrines across Kashmir valley for prayers and recitation of the Quran as the Muslim fasting month of Ramzan is about to end.

The Night of Qadr can fall on any of the odd-numbered nights of the last ashra of Ramazan. While most people believe it is likely to fall on the 27th night, some also believe that it falls on the 23rd night.

Muslims across the world perform night-long prayers to celebrate the first revelation of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh).

Preachers and religious scholars highlighted the teachings of Islam and various aspects of the life of the Prophet and urged Muslims to follow the same.

Dargah Hazratbal and other mosques and shrines across the valley were brimming with devout Muslims, late night reports reaching Kashmir Observer said.

Meanwhile, other mosques and shrines across the valley will resonate with spiritual recitations, as believers immerse themselves in prayers, Tilawat-e-Quran and supplications for mercy and peace tonight.

However, authorities disallowed night prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

The chief priest of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Thursday condemned the authorities' decision to disallow Shab-e-Qadr prayers at the historic Jama Masjid in old Srinagar city.

In a post on X, the Mirwaiz claimed that the authorities have conveyed to the Auqaf Jama Masjid, the managing body of the historic mosque, that there will be no night-long prayers there in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

“Conveyed to Auqaf by authorities, that on the highly revered night of LailaTul Qadr when Muslims around the world supplicate and seek Allah's forgiveness throughout the holy and blessed night, central #JamaMasjid Srinagar will be closed to the people and no shab or prayers will be allowed there.

“It is extremely regrettable and condemnable that the insensitivity of those in power will deprive tens of thousands of Muslims who for generations visit Jama Masjid on this night, of spiritual solace and worship, causing them and me great grief and dismay,” the mirwaiz said in his post on the microblogging platform.
