Sudanese, South Sudanese Leaders Discuss Developments In South Sudan
Port Sudan: Sudanese Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan held a phone call on Thursday with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss the evolving situation in South Sudan, particularly following recent events in Nasir.
During the call, Al Burhan reaffirmed Khartoum's support for Juba in achieving peace and stability. He also briefed President Salva Kiir on the latest developments in Sudan, especially the recent victories achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Nicholas Haysom warned that the deteriorating situation in the country suggests South Sudan is on the brink of renewed civil war. He highlighted indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Nasir, Upper Nile State, which have resulted in significant casualties and injuries, forcing at least 63,000 people to flee the area due to worsening conditions.
