(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi visited Defense Forces units in the Sumy region amid escalating Russian military activity in the area.

Syrskyi announced this on Facebook , Ukrinform reports.

"Due to the increased intensity of enemy actions and their attempts to push our forces back and shift combat operations onto the Sumy region's territory, I worked alongside units of the Air Assault Forces, Marine Corps, Territorial Defense, mechanized brigades, and several other formations," the post reads.

Syrskyi noted that in the operational zone of the Kursk Group of Forces, Ukrainian forces continued defensive operations to prevent the enemy from breaking deeper into Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian troops are conducting successful counterattacks and assault operations.

During his visit, Syrskyi thoroughly assessed all logistical and operational challenges related to combat efforts. He also made key decisions regarding the resupply of ammunition, drones, and the redeployment of reserves.

According to him, in the seven and a half months since the start of the Kursk operation, Ukrainian forces have inflicted over 55,000 casualties on the enemy. Of these, more than 22,200 are irreversible losses, over 31,800 are wounded, and more than 940 Russian soldiers have been captured.

"My respect to the warriors on the Kursk front for their resilience and effectiveness. Thanks to you, we maintain a 'sanitary zone' on the aggressor's territory and continue to block enemy advances along the Sumy region's northern border. I am confident that new offensives and victories lie ahead," Syrskyi said.

Earlier reports said that Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups had been attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian territory in the southern part of the Sumy region, near the Kharkiv region.
