Governor reports Ukrainian drone hits apartment block in southern Russia
(MENAFN) A Ukrainian drone struck a high-rise apartment building in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar reported on Friday evening.
The UAV exploded on the 17th floor, causing significant damage, Slyusar wrote on Telegram. “According to preliminary information, there are no fatalities. Two people were injured, and details are still being confirmed,” he added.
Local Telegram channels reported that the drone crashed into a wall before detonating, shattering windows in several apartments. A resident of the 21st floor told news161.ru that he heard “a powerful bang at around 11 p.m.” CCTV footage published by Izvestia allegedly captured the moment of the impact.
Friday saw a wave of drone attacks across multiple Russian regions. In the western Voronezh Region, more than ten UAVs were intercepted, according to Governor Aleksandr Gusev.
The strikes occurred as US President Donald Trump pushes for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Trump’s envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, told ABC News this week that Washington is working to arrange “indirect talks” between the two nations in Saudi Arabia on March 24.
