Moscow warns Kiev

(MENAFN) Russia has warned that it reserves the right to respond if Ukraine continues attacking its energy infrastructure in violation of a recently agreed partial ceasefire, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Saturday.

The ceasefire, mediated by the United States, was agreed upon during a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week. Under the agreement, Moscow pledged to halt strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, provided Kiev did the same. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also agreed to the terms.

However, despite the truce, Ukrainian forces targeted an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar Region the day after the agreement and later destroyed a gas metering station in Sudzha on Friday, according to Russian officials. Zakharova accused Kiev of also attacking residential buildings and social institutions, claiming Ukraine has no real intention of negotiating peace.

“Kiev is once again proving its inability to honor agreements, just as it did in 2022,” Zakharova said, warning that Russia may respond in kind. “If the Kiev regime continues this destructive course, the Russian side reserves the right to retaliate, including symmetrically.”

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that one of Ukraine’s strikes hit an oil facility operated by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in southern Russia, which has international investors, including U.S. energy companies Chevron and ExxonMobil.

Moscow has condemned the attacks as violations of Ukraine’s ceasefire commitments and accused Kiev of attempting to derail U.S.-led peace efforts. According to the Kremlin, Putin highlighted Ukraine’s repeated history of sabotaging peace agreements during his recent phone call with Trump.
