US, Ukraine initiate second round of talks in Saudi Arabia

(MENAFN) The United States and Ukraine have concluded their second round of closed-door discussions in Saudi Arabia, according to a source within the Ukrainian delegation speaking to public broadcaster on Tuesday. The talks, which followed a separate US-Russia meeting in Riyadh, were held in secrecy, with no details of the discussions immediately released.

The Ukrainian delegation was led by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Pavlo Palisa, as reported by a news agency. The meetings come shortly after US and Ukrainian officials convened in Riyadh on Sunday to address the security of energy and infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov characterized those earlier discussions as “productive and focused.”

Adding to the complex diplomatic landscape, US and Russian delegations also held private negotiations in Saudi Arabia on Monday. Journalists were excluded from the premises of The Ritz-Carlton hotel where the get-together occurred.

Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the negotiations included the Black Sea grain initiative, focusing on ensuring maritime security.
