Bernie Sanders Urges Ending U.S. Military Support for Israel
(MENAFN) U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has once again emphasized his demand to halt the supply of weapons to Israel. In his statement, Sanders criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's actions, noting that he has denied humanitarian aid to Gaza for the past 22 days.
Sanders pointed out that Netanyahu broke the ceasefire agreement and resumed airstrikes, which have resulted in the deaths of over 50,000 individuals.
The senator's comments came after the Israeli military initiated an unexpected airstrike campaign on the Gaza Strip on March 18, killing at least 730 people, despite the existence of a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal that began in January.
Sanders took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his stance, asserting, "NO MORE MILITARY AID TO NETANYAHU’S WAR MACHINE."
The ongoing Israeli military offensive on Gaza, which started in October 2023, has claimed the lives of over 50,000 Palestinians, with the majority being women and children. Additionally, more than 113,400 individuals have been injured. This brutal assault has drawn international attention and criticism.
In a significant development, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Moreover, Israel is currently facing a case for genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in relation to its actions in the region.
