FBI initiates ‘domestic terrorism’ task force over Tesla assaults

(MENAFN) The FBI has launched a special task force to investigate a wave of violent attacks targeting Tesla vehicles, dealerships, and charging stations across the U.S. The incidents, which include arson and vandalism, have been classified as acts of domestic terrorism.

According to the New York Post, the 10-member unit includes personnel from the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and intelligence analysts. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the initiative, stressing the agency’s commitment to ensuring public safety and holding those responsible accountable.

“The FBI has been investigating the rise in violent activity against Tesla, and we have taken additional steps to crack down and coordinate our response,” Patel wrote on X. “This is domestic terrorism. Those responsible will be pursued, caught, and brought to justice.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become a controversial figure since President Donald Trump appointed him to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Authorities believe the attacks may be ideologically driven, potentially linked to an anarchist blog that promotes violence against the company.

Since late January, dozens of Tesla-related attacks have been reported in the U.S. and Canada, many accompanied by anti-Musk graffiti. This month alone, 48 incidents have been recorded, with seven currently under investigation. The situation escalated further when incendiary devices were discovered at a Tesla dealership in Austin, Texas, on Monday.

The FBI task force will work with local law enforcement to investigate past and recent attacks and prevent future incidents. The agency is also monitoring an upcoming protest, “Tesla Takedown,” planned for March 29, which aims to organize demonstrations at Tesla locations nationwide.

President Trump has strongly condemned the attacks and proposed severe penalties, including sending perpetrators to El Salvador’s infamous mega-prison for 20-year sentences. Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed this stance, warning that the Department of Justice will enforce harsh consequences for those involved in the attacks, including organizers and financial backers.

As of Monday, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.
