Airasia Malaysia To Launch New Direct KL-Darwin Route

Dhaka : AirAsia Malaysia (Flight Code AK) is excited to announce the launch of a new direct route from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin, marking a significant expansion into the Australian market and strengthening its commitment to enhancing international connectivity.

Starting on 27 June 2025, passengers will enjoy four weekly flights, offering convenient access to explore Darwin, the vibrant capital of Australia's Northern Territory, and its breathtaking surroundings.

This exciting development means that Darwin will become the first city in the Middle East/GCC region to be served exclusively by refurbished Emirates Boeing 777s. With its state-of-the-art cabin enhancements, the route offers travelers the opportunity to experience the airline's new Business Class and highly acclaimed Premium Economy offerings.

The new service will connect Kuala Lumpur and Darwin with a combined total of 19 weekly flights, catering to approximately 200,000 passengers each year.

At the launch event held at Darwin Airport, Dato' Captain Fareh Mazputra, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia, and Hon. Robyn Cahill, Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations of the Northern Territory, underscored the importance of this new route.

“We are thrilled to launch our very first flight to Darwin, creating greater opportunities for both leisure and business travelers to explore one of Australia's most vibrant and unique destinations. At the same time, we are opening a new gateway to Asia for 'Territorians' in the Top End of Australia,” stated Captain Fareh Mazputra.

Minister Robyn Cahill added,“We welcome this important milestone for AirAsia as it reconnects Darwin with Kuala Lumpur, improving air accessibility and affordability for our people, and making it easier to invest, visit, and do business in the Territory.

AirAsia's reputation as one of the world's best low-cost carriers is further affirmed by this investment, setting the stage for strong commercial outcomes.”

The new route is a key part of AirAsia Malaysia's continued expansion in the Australian market. Since March 2024, the airline has been serving Australia between Kuala Lumpur and Perth, complementing its sister airline AirAsia X's operations on the same route.

With Darwin joining the network, AirAsia Malaysia now serves five destinations in Australia, further bolstering tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between Malaysia and the region.

To celebrate this milestone, AirAsia is rolling out special promotional fares: one-way fares from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin start at RM299*, while return fares from Darwin to Kuala Lumpur begin at AUD189*.

These all-inclusive fares cover passenger service charges, regulatory fees, fuel surcharges, and other applicable costs. Tickets are available for booking now through airasia or via the AirAsia MOVE app for travel dates between 27 June and 25 October 2025.
