Consortium Led by Bill Chisholm Buys Boston Celtics
(MENAFN) A consortium headed by American businessman Bill Chisholm has successfully secured an agreement to buy the NBA team, the Boston Celtics, for an unprecedented USD6.1 billion, setting a new record for the highest-priced team sale in North American sports history, based on reports from US outlets.
The Celtics, who were formerly bought by the Grousbeck family for USD360 million in 2002, have now shifted ownership after 23 years in a milestone contract.
As the most successful team in NBA history with 18 championships, the Celtics now feature prominent players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, as well as Al Horford.
The reigning champions boast an impressive 50-19 record this season, securing the second spot in the Eastern Conference.
Before this transaction, the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL) were sold for USD6.05 billion, and another NBA team, the Phoenix Suns, was acquired for USD4 billion.
