Poland instructs residents to stock up on supplies

(MENAFN) Poland is advising its citizens to prepare for potential war or crises by stockpiling at least three days' worth of essential supplies, according to Deputy Interior Minister Wieslaw Lesniakiewicz. The call comes in response to a proposed €800 billion military buildup, spearheaded by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, aimed at countering a perceived threat from Russia, which Moscow has dismissed as unfounded.

Lesniakiewicz emphasized that citizens should be able to survive independently for at least three days in the event of an extreme situation, such as war. He recommended stockpiling necessities like food, water, medicine, power banks, and transistor radios for emergency communication when other methods are unavailable. The Polish government also plans to release a guide on crisis preparation, drawing inspiration from a similar initiative in Sweden.

This announcement follows recent actions in neighboring countries, including Sweden, which has been distributing updated crisis preparation pamphlets, and Finland, Norway, and Denmark, which have also introduced similar materials. Additionally, Poland's Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Bejda revealed plans to mine the country's borders with Belarus and Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave, citing security concerns over a potential Russian attack. This controversial measure could involve the production of up to a million anti-personnel landmines as part of Poland's $2.6 billion "Eastern Shield" defense project. However, Russia has dismissed these claims as "nonsense."
