Lucia Witbooi Becomes Namibia’s First Female Vice President
(MENAFN) Namibia's newly inaugurated Leader Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah unveiled her first Cabinet on Saturday, naming Lucia Witbooi as the country’s first-ever female vice president.
With this appointment, Namibia becomes the only African nation to have both a female president and vice president.
Nandi-Ndaitwah swore in 14 ministers, including eight women, as well as seven deputy ministers in the capital city, Windhoek.
In her address, she expressed confidence in the ability of her team to fulfill the mandate given by the people of Namibia, stating, “I have no doubt that we will deliver on what the people of Namibia have mandated to do.”
The President also emphasized the importance of government ministries focusing on plans aimed at eliminating poverty.
She further announced that the functions related to marginalized and disability affairs would be moved to the office of the vice president to ensure these issues receive the necessary attention. Nandi-Ndaitwah called on Namibians to allow her Cabinet enough time to implement their plans.
Among other significant appointments, Elijah Ngurare was named prime minister, and Selma Ashipala-Musavyi was appointed as the minister of international relations and trade.
