DHS Cancels Legal Status of More Than 500,000 Migrants in U.S.
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) canceled the legal status of 532,000 individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, as well as Venezuela living in the United States under a program initiated by previous Leader Joe Biden. This decision was made on Friday.
Over 500,000 people from these nations were admitted to the US after October 2022 through Biden's two-year initiative, known as CHNV. This program granted them legal authorization to live and work in the country, provided they had financial sponsors.
However, the new directive issued by DHS head Kristi Noem terminates the program, meaning that all those with temporary legal status will lose their authorization by April 24 and will be required to return to their own homeland.
