Tragic mine collapse in Peru leaves several dead, injured
(MENAFN) A mine collapse in southern Peru has resulted in the deaths of more than four individuals and injuries to four others, according to local reports on Friday.
The incident took place on March 18 at the Santa Maria-Lunar de Oro mine in La Rinconada, an elevated mining town in the Puno area.
State news agency reported that three labors lost their lives inside the mine, while a fourth succumbed to injuries while being transported to a medical facility.
Rescue teams faced extreme conditions, navigating nearly 300 meters of hazardous terrain to retrieve the deceased.
Local prosecutor Fredy Condori has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and identify any responsible parties.
