Torkham Route Remains Shut For Travelers Due To Incomplete Works
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Officials in eastern Nangarhar province say the Torkham crossing will not be opened for patients and travelers today (Friday), as originally scheduled, due to incomplete restoration work.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid traveling to Torkham until further notice.
Sayed Tayeb Hammad, spokesman for the Nangarhar Police, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Torkham crossing will remain closed for travel on Friday.
He explained that some essential equipment on the Pakistani side still requires repairs, and urged all travelers to refrain from attempting to cross until the situation returns to normal in order to avoid inconvenience.
Previously, under an agreement between both sides, the Torkham gate was opened for cargo trucks on Wednesday afternoon, with plans to open it for patients and travelers on Friday.
However, officials have confirmed that the repair work has not been completed, meaning travel will not be permitted today either.
