(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
AMMAN, March 20 (KUNA) -- The Arab Ministerial Committee assigned by Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit strongly condemned the Israeli occupation raids on Gaza and direct bombardment of areas populated by unarmed civilians, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of Palestinians.
In a statement on Thursday, the committee said these raids constituted a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza Strip and a violation of UN resolutions, international charters, treaties, agreements, and international humanitarian law, which exacerbates the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Strip.
The violation also poses a serious threat to the security and stability of the region, undermining the efforts to deescalate the tension and achieve peace, the statement added.
The committee called on the international community to assume its moral and legal responsibilities and to immediately intervene to put pressure on Israeli occupation to immediately cease its aggression and violations, comply with UN resolutions, international law and international humanitarian law.
It also called for protecting Palestinian civilians from the Israeli occupation's unjust war machine, obligating its forces to immediately and fully restore Gaza's electricity supply, and open all crossings to deliver humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The Ministerial Committee highlighted the urgent necessity of a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, end the Israeli escalation, resume dialogue, and ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
It also reiterated its steadfast position on the importance of achieving a just and sustainable peace within the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, ensuring the protection of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The committee, which was formed on November 11, 2023, includes the foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Turkiye, Indonesia, Nigeria, Palestine, as well as The Secretary General of the League of Arab States and The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
