Israelis Demonstrate for Hostages, Dismissal of Shin Bet Chief

(MENAFN) Tens of thousands of Israelis gathered on Saturday to call for an end to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, demanding the protection of Israeli hostages and rejecting the removal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.

Protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with Premier Benjamin Netanyahu's government, urging it to stop the military operations in Gaza, particularly due to growing concerns over the safety of those held captive.

Israeli media outlets, reported that people took to the streets across the country in an effort to apply pressure on Netanyahu's administration.

Demonstrators were vocal about their desire for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgency of protecting the lives of the Israeli captives.

Among the largest protests was one held at Habima Square in central Tel Aviv, while in West Jerusalem, protesters voiced opposition to the government's plan to dismiss Bar and its decision to continue the Gaza war.

They argued that resuming military action would further jeopardize the lives of those being held hostage.

Protesters took to blocking key roads, including at Paris Square near the prime minister’s residence, as reported by a news agency.

Police intervened and made several arrests during the demonstrations. Similar demonstrations were also seen in Haifa, located in the north, and Beersheba in the south.

Despite the Supreme Court's ruling to freeze Bar’s dismissal, Netanyahu confirmed on Saturday that Bar would not continue as the head of the Shin Bet security agency.
