Japanese Premier Expresses His Will to Build Ties with China, South Korea
(MENAFN) On Friday, Japanese Premier Shigeru Ishiba expressed his desire to establish a “future-oriented cooperative relationship” with China along with South Korea, as stated by his Foreign Ministry.
Ishiba made these remarks during a talk with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-Yul, with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya also in attendance.
Wang and Cho paid a courtesy visit to Ishiba one day prior to the planned three-sided foreign ministers’ conference.
According to the statement, Ishiba described China and South Korea as “extremely important neighboring countries of Japan.”
While acknowledging the occasional challenges between the three countries, Ishiba highlighted their shared status as “neighboring countries” and expressed his hopes for engaging in talks, including addressing areas of concern.
The Japanese premier underscored his intention to “build a future-oriented cooperative relationship through pragmatic diplomacy based on national interests.”
He further noted that the three nations wield “significant influence and responsibilities” in upholding “peace and prosperity” in Asia, emphasizing that their collaboration would not only benefit the region but also the world at large.
