Meta Deactivates Facebook Accounts of Sonshine Media Network International
(MENAFN) Meta has temporarily deactivated the Facebook accounts of Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI), a media organization from the Philippines known for its backing of previous Leader Rodrigo Duterte, on Wednesday.
SMNI acknowledged the suspension on its official website, noting that its associated platforms, DZAR 1026 and SMNI Integrated News, were also impacted by the action.
As per SMNI’s statement, Meta explained that the suspension was due to breaches involving "expressing hatred or contempt for a group of people and using harmful racial stereotypes."
In response, SMNI declared: "If this is the price for speaking the TRUTH, then so be it. SMNI will always speak the TRUTH THAT MATTERS."
Rodrigo Duterte, the previous leader of the Philippines who held office from 2016 to 2022, is currently facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Based on court documents, Duterte will remain in ICC custody until September 23, when the next hearing for the confirmation of charges is scheduled.
The 79-year-old ex-president could seek temporary release on health grounds under the Rome Statute, although the ICC has never previously accepted a request like this, as a suspect responsible for charges of crimes against humanity.
