Trump Derangement Syndrome possibly to be diagnosed as mental disorder

(MENAFN) Republican legislators in Minnesota have introduced a bill seeking to classify ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ (TDS) as an official mental illness. The proposal, introduced on Monday by five GOP lawmakers, defines TDS as a condition in which individuals exhibit irrational reactions to US President Donald Trump’s policies and presidency.

The bill describes TDS as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons” in response to Trump’s leadership. It claims that the condition can manifest in behaviors such as verbal hostility or aggression toward those with differing political views. The lawmakers argue that individuals suffering from TDS struggle to separate political disagreements from psychological conditions.

State Senator Glenn Gruenhagen, one of the bill’s authors, defended the measure, asserting that extreme reactions to Trump’s presidency indicate a “deeper psychological problem” rather than just political opposition. He pointed to incidents of hostility toward Trump supporters, such as vandalism, threats, and road rage, as examples of TDS in action.

Despite its introduction, Gruenhagen admitted that the bill is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate. “We all know that the Democrats and Governor Walz will never allow this bill to pass anyway, so take a deep breath and calm down,” he wrote on Facebook, addressing the backlash from critics.

Opponents argue that the term TDS is merely a rhetorical device used to dismiss valid criticism of Trump. Others suggest that the concept could just as easily apply to Trump supporters who react aggressively toward his opponents.
