US calls on Iraq to reinitiate exports through Iraq-Turkey Pipeline
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the United States urged the Iraqi government to wrap up a deal with international oil firms in order to reinitiate crude oil shipments via the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline (ITP), which have been suspended for almost 12 months.
State Department representative Tammy Bruce emphasized during a news meeting: “We are urging the Iraqi government to reach an agreement...with the international oil companies to resume oil exports through the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline as soon as possible, and to honor the existing contracts with US companies.”
Bruce also highlighted the importance of reopening the ITP, stating: “Reopening the ITP ensures Iraqi oil can reach global, especially European, markets. Iraq benefits from the stability of resilient supply chains as we all do.”
Oil shipments from Iraq to Ceyhan Port were halted on March 25, 2023, after an arbitration decision made by the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) regarding the oil trade between Iraq and Turkey.
