Audi Plans to Lay off 7,500 Jobs in Germany by 2029
(MENAFN) Audi, a subsidiary of the German automaker Volkswagen Group, reported on Monday that it will eliminate 7,500 careers in Germany, primarily in management and development, by 2029.
The company cited increasing economic pressures, heightened competitive challenges, and political uncertainties as the key factors driving this decision.
In a press release, Audi stated that it plans to invest EURO8 billion (around USD8.7 billion) in its German operations over the next four years. The company also noted that the measures, which were agreed upon by both management and labor representatives on Monday, are expected to save EURO1 billion annually in the medium term.
Audi’s CEO, Gernot Dollner, commented, "In times of profound change, company management and the works council are pulling in the same direction." He added, “With this clear agreement, we are strengthening Audi's competitiveness and future readiness in equal measure. Together, we are sending a clear signal for more focus, efficiency, and profitability at our German sites. This has created the conditions for continuing the transformation in a scope-driven manner.”
