Russia Plans to Request “Ironclad” Security Assurances in Ukraine Talks

(MENAFN) On Monday, Russia announced that it will request “ironclad” security assurances in the course of ongoing discussions about a potential 30-day ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, as proposed by the United States.

In an interview with a news agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko emphasized, “We will demand that ironclad security guarantees become part of this agreement. Since only through their formation will it be possible to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine and, in general, strengthen regional security.”

Grushko stated that a key element of these guarantees should be Ukraine’s neutral status and NATO’s commitment to not admitting Kyiv as a member. He accused NATO of becoming “more aggressive” through its military actions.

Reaffirming Russia’s opposition to the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine, Grushko stated that peacekeeping missions and NATO were “incompatible things.”

He further asserted: “They brag a lot that it is a defensive alliance, but the real history of the alliance consists of military operations, a series of aggressions without any reason, just to once again emphasize its hegemony in world and regional affairs.”
