Doha, Qatar: Amidst an atmosphere of faith, marked by brotherhood and compassion, thousands of fasting people flock daily to the Iftar tents organised and supervised by the General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, with generous support from donors, philanthropists, and charitable individuals.

The Iftar Sa'im project is not limited to providing Iftar meals alone. It also includes faith-based and religious awareness programmes aimed at familiarising workers with the religious aspects of their faith and promoting true Islamic values.

The programme is delivered in Urdu by specialised preachers from the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre. Mohammed Hassan Al Tamimi, Deputy Chairman of the Iftar Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, explained that the project aims this year to provide Iftar for 300,000 fasting people throughout the holy month, in addition to spreading Islamic culture among workers, which will help them understand the teachings of Islam in a correct and balanced manner.

He noted that the Iftar tents project reinforce the concept of social solidarity in Islam as it is a comprehensive approach that strengthens the bonds between members of society and encourages a sense of responsibility towards others.

Al Tamimi said that the lectures are held several days a week for half an hour before the Maghrib call to prayer, and the educational programme ends ten minutes before Iftar. A group of preachers from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, nominated by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Centre, are participating in the programme, including Khudayi Noor Muhammad, Muhammad Farid, Yusuf Noor Nabi, Muhammad Musa Sayyid, Mudather Ahmad, and Mawlawi Muhammad Ishaq.

Al Tamimi stressed that these advocacy programmes and educational lectures are part of the Ministry's commitment to spreading religious awareness among various society segments, especially workers and non-Arabic-speaking communities.

He said that these Ramadan tents represent a great opportunity to raise awareness, given that more than a thousand fasting people gather at Iftar tables every day from after the afternoon prayer until the sunset call to prayer to eat the Iftar meal. Some of these tents host nearly two thousand fasting people every day, making the“Iftar for the Fasting” tents a wonderful model of integrated charitable work.
